Understand brake fluid characteristics and safety tips.
Brake fluid is the means by which the force applied to the brake pedal is transferred as hydraulic pressure to actuate the brakes on the wheels. In this way, their physicochemical properties are vitally important to maintain good brake system performance. A good fluid must match the ABNT (Brazilian Technical Standards Association) or SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) specifications. These specifications must contain the following basic requirements:
• Boiling point;
• Flash point;
• Technical stability;
Because it’s a hygroscopic fluid (absorbs moisture from the air), it must be replaced annually or every 10,000 km, whichever comes first. In this way you’ll ensure perfect brake system operation as well as durability.
Fremax Tips: never refill the reservoir if it’s at a low level – you should, in this case, replace all the old fluid.
